Gartree High School is a popular co-educational school for children from the ages of ten to fourteen. The school is situated in Oadby, a pleasant residential area on the south side of Leicester.
DNA Pioneer Opens School
One of world's most renowned scientists has officially opened one of the county's most hi-tech schools. Leicestershire' Sir Alec Jeffreys, famous for his groundbreaking work on genetic fingerprinting, cut the ribbon on the impressive Gartree High School, in Oadby.The £13 million school, which opened its doors to students at the start of the year, has innovative features, including specialist listening equipment in every classroom to help children who have trouble hearing.
Sir Alec said: "My family has close connections to Gartree High School, especially as my daughter attended the school. "It's lovely to see the fantastic reconstruction of the building. It's important to get the environment right for teaching future generations. "I'm proud and privileged to have officially opened the school. It's nice to give something back to the community."
The school's head teacher, Rosemary Goldberg, said: "The whole Gartree community is delighted to have moved into such a stunning school building. "We have been grateful to be involved in the design right from the outset and believe it is a building that will enable us to translate our aspirations for young people in this area into a reality, continuing to build on the many successes of this school to date." ATeamwork from staff and pupils has helped Leicestershire place five of its schools in the top 20 in the country for pupils' progress between the ages of 11 and 14. Children at only one other school in the country made more of an improvement in English, math sand science. .more

A Series of banners were designed for the atrium spaces. They were used to as a creative opportunity to engage with students to develop large artworks. The banners depict themes of ‘technology’ and the ‘students’.
