Careers Hub

At Gartree High School we aim to support the aspirations of all our learners and to ensure that they gain the understanding, skills and experience they need to make progress and succeed in learning and work. We believe that effective Careers Education and Guidance not only contributes to the well-being of individuals but also to the wellbeing of their families, the communities to which they belong, and wider society.

This information is provided for use by students and their families, by the staff of Gartree High School, and by companies who wish to create working partnerships with the school to enrich our careers programme.

  • The Careers office is located on the top floor in the conference room area. It is open on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. Ms Allsop is the Careers Advisor and work experience coordinator and Mr Rackley is the Careers Leader.

  • Current Careers information and external events are communicated to students and parents via MyChildAtSchool.

In Careers Education at Gartree, students are given a variety of skills to make them more employable in their chosen field. They also undertake multiple areas of study which allow them to identify which skills they have, and which employment paths will keep them satisfied as young adults and beyond.

Gartree High School strives to provide its young people with access to up-to-date, unbiased careers advice of the highest standard. Following extensive research, one of the products the school has decided to implement is the Unifrog CIAG (Careers Information, Advice and & Guidance) software, which is available to all stakeholders – our students, their families and all staff. It is free to individuals, and available both in and out of school via the web portal.

The software forms the backbone of our formal delivery of our careers programme to students. In accordance with the Gatsby Benchmarks, it guides students through a myriad of research, encouraging them to document their progress, and to evidence their experiences both inside schools and outside of school.

We work with the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), who provide strategic and operational planning assistance through their Enterprise Adviser Network.

Work Experience Year 10

Every summer our Year 10 students are given the opportunity to take part in a work experience week.

This is co-ordinated in house with the support of local businesses and organisations, parents, guardians and family members. Every student has the opportunity to attend another work placement post 16 whilst in education.
